Anthropological positions of Pelagius and John Cassian

The article presents a comparative analysis of the anthropological constructions Marseille abbot John Cassian and British monk Pelagius. study focuses on need for thorough revision doctrinal assessments established in Western theological science, according to which is representative so-called “semi-Pelagian” theology. author believes that wrong view Cassian’s theology formed as result considering his doctrines context Pelagian dispute. not related discussion free will predestination. His anthropology was Eastern Christian ascetic tradition. paid great attention questions about role divine grace human action matter salvation. Cassian, being heir monastic tradition, emphasized personal asceticism. This led many theologians draw conclusion follower shows views are far from Pelagius closer Augustine respects.
